According to a high-ranking defense official, the American military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.

“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a established drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Context and Recent Actions

The statement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Only on Tuesday, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Defends Actions Amid Scrutiny

The government has encountered increasing demands to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has said the campaign is about stopping drugs headed to the US, comments from a top official appeared to suggest a broader political aim. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the president “wants to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a push to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
