The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first championship series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the ALCS. Trailing by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series triumph in the seven-game series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the reigning title, in the forthcoming Fall Classic. "It's incredible for our team, the city, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling." The veteran has now connected for 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history behind Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven). "I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I want up in that situation except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider. The Mariners, after leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club never to appear in a World Series. Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "there's no question that it's painful" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their work in the campaign. "It's a special team. It's a shame that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he added. The Blue Jays secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
