TikTok Grants Viewers Authority to Limit Artificial Intelligence-Made Videos in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a updated setting that permits them to lessen the quantity of artificial intelligence-produced content appearing in their streams. This move comes as the service revealed that it currently hosts more than 1 billion AI videos.

Trial and Implementation

The update is undergoing trials over the following weeks before a widespread release. This advancement comes amid a rise in AI-generated material, fueled by recent AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Recent reports that approximately a tenth of the quickest rising content creators on a popular video site exclusively feature clips produced artificially. A considerable share of this material is considered low-quality AI content, a term for inferior, factory-style content that is typically illogical or dreamlike.

Our research shows that a lot of users like content created using AI tools, ranging from AI artwork to informative clips, and we intend to give people the power to adjust the amount of that, depending on their own likes,” stated a spokesperson.

Volume and Proportions

The platform shared that there are currently 1.3 billion videos on its service labeled as made with AI. In total, over 100 m media items are uploaded to the app each day, making AI-generated material a minor part of its total content library.

User Control Features

Users will be capable of reduce or increase the volume of AI-generated videos they watch by accessing the content preference option in the platform and picking AI-made media. Other topics that can already be adjusted under the filter include current affairs, style, cosmetics, and choreography.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its guidelines mandate content makers to identify convincing artificially created content, and it forbids malicious AI impersonations of celebrities or critical incidents. Any believable AI video that is not labeled can be deleted under its community policies.

In addition, the app will now apply an AI-generated label to content made using its built-in AI features, or detected by an cross-platform project for spotting AI-generated material. This measure is intended to deter users from seeking to bypass the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

The company is furthermore introducing a $2m AI literacy fund for experts and organizations to create educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will benefit charitable organizations specializing in training coding and technology.

Moderation Strategy

The video-sharing app has supported its content review process, during debate over plans to cut jobs for a large number of content moderators in the United Kingdom. The company is planning to eliminate a significant number of roles in its content moderation department in its British office, with worker representatives and digital protection specialists raising concerns that people are being substituted by machine-led review.

A senior executive stated that human moderation would still have a role, but automated tools can safeguard staff by removing the most distressing content before it has to be seen by humans. TikTok announced a notable drop in explicit and harmful content handled by safety staff over the previous year due to reliance on its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate staff and AI to keep the platform safe,” she said. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to reduce exposure to unsafe media as rapidly, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is really helping us work at speed.”
